Asheville, NC (7/20/12)
Blue Ridge Biofuels is proud to announce that the Catamount Pump & Go in Sylva, NC is now offering biodiesel for use in vehicles. Catamount Pump & Go is located at 21 Steeple Road in Sylva, adjacent to Highway 23/74. Catamount Pump & Go re-opened the former Aztex BP station which experienced a fire that closed the station in mid-2011, and it is the only public fueling station with biodiesel in Jackson County, NC.
Dr. David Dorondo, a Professor at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, has been waiting patiently for the station to reopen. He runs his 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbo on biodiesel. “My car loves that stuff and runs a lot better on biodiesel than on regular diesel fuel. My car runs much more smoothly and the fuel smells better – kind of like French fries.”
All of the biodiesel at Catamount Pump and Go is made in Asheville by Blue Ridge Biofuels (BRB). BRB uses recycled used cooking oil from area restaurants to produce biodiesel that meets the highest fuel quality standards. Every gallon of biodiesel used in Western North Carolina displaces imported petroleum, supports the regional economy, and contributes to stable jobs. Blue Ridge Biofuels is a Living Wage Certified employer.
Biodiesel is a sustainable, renewable alternative to diesel fuel and can be used in any diesel engine without modifications. Biodiesel reduces greenhouse gases and other emissions, and is nontoxic and biodegradable. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel. Blends are designated as B##, where the ## represents the percentage of biodiesel in the fuel. Biodiesel and biodiesel blends also provide better performance compared to petroleum through higher cetane values and increased fuel lubricity.
Catamount Pump and Go offers a high-blend of biodiesel (B99 in summer, B50 in winter) for on-road vehicles as well as B20 on road year round. The biodiesel pump is located next to a petroleum diesel pump allowing customers to create any custom blend directly in their vehicle’s fuel tank.
Blue Ridge Biofuels is a locally-owned business that provides clean-burning biofuels for Western North Carolina meeting all ASTM D6751 fuel quality specifications. BRB supplies biodiesel to the public through a growing list of public fueling stations. In addition, BRB provides bulk on and off road biodiesel and BioHeat, a cleaner alternative to conventional home heating oil.
