While we are still awaiting the Federal Government to reinstate the biodiesel tax credits, we are determined to keep collecting waste cooking oil, producing biodiesel, and selling clean-burning, locally-made fuel. In fact, BRB is one of only a handful of biodiesel producers still in operation in the US. That is why it is absolutely necessary that you contact your representatives today to let them know you support BRB, the US biodiesel industry, and the biodiesel tax credits which are vital to BRB and the entire US alternative fuel industry.
The biodiesel tax credit is currently within the Extenders Package in the American Workers, State, and Business Relief Act (H.R. 4213), known as the Jobs Bill II, which would also extend unemployment insurance and health care benefits through the end of 2010, as well as other business tax breaks. This bill was passed by the Senate on March 10 and was sent to the US House of Representatives where it is currently awaiting action by the Ways & Means committee. There are, however, differences between the versions of the bill passed by the Senate and the one passed by the House in December 2009, and these differences will have to be reconciled and both chambers will have to approve an identical bill before it can be presented to the President for his signature.
US Representative Sander Levin (D-MI), the new Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, has signaled his desire to begin working with the Senate to reconcile the differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill and craft a final product by the Memorial Day recess.
It is absolutely vital that Members of Congress – both your Senators and especially your House Representatives – hear from you about the time sensitive nature of this issue and your support of the US biodiesel industry which is being greatly harmed by the continued lapse of the biodiesel tax incentive.
The US biodiesel industry has been producing at near zero since the tax credit ended at the end of last year, with many plants either massively reducing production or shutting down. Over 50,000 green jobs have already been lost which does not include jobs in supporting industries.
Please call your Senators and Congressional Representatives and urge them to pass the biodiesel tax credit contained in the American Workers, State, and Business Relief Act (H.R. 4213). Please also call Rep. Levin of the House Ways & Means Committee and let him know action needs to be taken now.
Your calls really do count!
